REGULATIONS FOR SUBMITTING PAPERS

"The Maritime Future of Spain and its Place in Europe. Impact on Asturias"
51st. CONGRESS OF NAVAL ENGINEERING AND MARITIME INDUSTRY

1. HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONGRESS

In general, one can participate in a Congress of Naval Engineering and Maritime Industry in two ways:
•    As an Author, presenting a technical paper according to the Congress goals  
•    As a Sponsoring Company or Institution of the Congress

2. AUTHORS

Who can present technical papers:
 
I) The members of the Asociación de Ingenieros Navales y Oceánicos de España as well as Spanish or foreign visitors who comply with the regulations.
II) Businesses and Institutions of the maritime sector  

3. PAPERS

3.1.    Content.

They should deal with a subject that suits the motto of the Congress and meet the required status according to the judgment of the Commission of Technical Professional Matters. Nevertheless, the Commission will admit free themed papers if it agrees with their interest and the occasion. .
Papers must be written in Spanish or English.

3.2.    Submission format.

  • 3.2.1.    They should be headed with a summary in Spanish and English of 100 to 150 words.
  • 3.2.2.    The text should not exceed 40 A4-sized pages, be single-spaced, Arial Narrow font and 12 pt, not be less than 5 pages. The maximum number of figures should be 15, not included in the previous limits. All papers that exceed these limits will not compete for the prizes nor be evaluated by the judges.
  • 3.2.3.    The text of papers should be submitted in electronic media, MICROSOFT WORD (2007, 2003, XP or former version) or printable PDF file. Papers smaller than 10 MB can be sent by e-mail or physical means (CD, Pendrive, etc.), or exclusively by physical means for files larger than 10 MB.  The final format (or pint) of the papers should have the following margins:

    -top and bottom margin: 2.54 cm (all pages)
    -right margin: 1.5 cm (odd pages) and 2.5 cm (even pages)
    -left margin:  2.5 cm (odd pages) and 1.5 cm (even pages)
    -page numbers: at bottom center (all pages).

The formulas should appear on a separate line, with references numbered consecutively.

  • 3.2.4.    Figures and photos should be submitted in electronic format, jpg, tiff or similar.. Photos must be positive, preferably in color. The format and size of the figures will be A4 maximum with a 300 dpi (2480 x 3508 pixels). Figures will be numbered, as well as formulas, in the order of appearance of the text and, as long as they are not supplementary explanations, they should have a footnote with the appropriate indications. Preferably, they should be intermingled in the text that refers to them.
  • 3.2.5.    Quotes should be literally transcribed, mentioning the source in a concrete manner. These references, as well as others made in the text, should be numbered in the order of appearance so that they can easily be found in the bibliography included at the end of the Paper.

In the bibliography, first is the name of the author or authors if there are several, (in first place is the name appearing in the original paper), then the title of the paper and the bibliography, including, when appropriate, the pages number making reference to the quote. If there are several references or separate parts in an extensive text, they should be numbered separately, indicating the page numbers pertaining to each reference mark. If the paper cited or commented is a Regulation or other publication of an organism or company, the name of the entity should be cited first as if it were the name of the author.

  • 3.2.6.    It is recommended to start the paper with an introduction and end it with conclusions or results of the work.

3.3.    Delivery and Dates.

  • 3.3.1.    All submissions will be sent either by mail to "Presidente de la Asociación de Ingenieros Navales y Oceánicos de España", C/Castelló, 66-6° 28001 Madrid (Spain), or by e-mail to: sectecoin@iies.es or aine@ingenierosnavales.com.
  • 3.3.2.    The title along with the summary mentioned in item 3.2.1. and an index of its content will be presented no later than  June 15, 2012.
  • 3.3.3.    In a period no longer than 15 days from the deadline for the submission of summaries specified in 3.3.2., the Commission of Professional-Technical Matters will inform the author of the submission or not of his/her paper, and may request that the author submit additional information.
  • 3.3.4.    The complete work must be delivered no later than September 17, 2012.
  • 3.3.5.    The presentation of the exposition of the Paper before the Congress (slides, Power Point 2003, XP or prior) should be delivered no later than  October 7, 2012. The author should indicate the Audio Visual device required. Failure to do this will  indicate that the AV device  is not necessary .

3.4    Edition.

The author assigns, without compensation, the rights to publish the papers and presentations to the Asociación de Ingenieros Navales y Oceánicos de España, for publication in the Congress website, included within the Web Page www.ingenierosnavales.com and for "Ingeniería Naval" magazine during the year and a half after the Congress. After this period, it may be published in other magazines stating that it was presented at the Naval Engineering Congress.

4. SPONSORING COMPANIES OR INSTITUTIONS

4.1    Sponsoring Companies or Institutions of the Congress will be public or private Companies or Institutions wishing to acquire such status in exchange for a consideration of the Asociación de Ingenieros Navales y Oceánicos de España.

4.2    The name of the Sponsoring Companies or Institutions will be linked during the development of the Congress, obliging the Association to identify the Sponsors in communications and press releases about the Congress, according to the contract between the parties.

4.3    The consideration of the Sponsors will be set by the Commission of Professional-Technical Matters for each particular Congress.

5. DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONGRESS

5.1    The President of the Asociación de Ingenieros Navales y Oceánicos de España or designated person will preside over the Congress, and be assisted by a Secretary.

5.2.    The duration of the exposition of the papers will not exceed 25 minutes, which is the time available for those finally assigned by the organization according to the program. The exposition will  be in
Spanish or English. It is recommended that authors prepare a summary and Power Point presentation (2003, XP or prior version). In case of using a different program, a laptop with appropriate software for display is required.

5.3.    After the exposition of each work or work block, and in the opinion of the President, there will be a period of interventions. There will be no dialogues allowed and the audience can speak only once. Also, the Presidency will promote the participation in the symposiums of the Companies, Academic Institutions, the Administration, Collectives of National and European Businesses, and Sponsoring Companies and Institutions.

5.4.    The author will have the last word.

5.5.    The Prize Presentation Ceremony will take place during the Gala Dinner

6. AWARDS

The following prizes will be awarded:

1º    Gold Medal and € 4,000.
2º    Silver Medal and €2,000.
3º    Bronze Medal

for the best papers presented in the opinion of the Qualification Jury constituted for that purpose, taking into account, among other things, the following merits:
•    The technical quality of the paper.
•    The effects of the paper on the Spanish Naval and Oceanic Engineering, outside the profession and to the Spanish and European Society in general.
•    The participation of Companies and Institutions of the Maritime Sector.
•    Its international character.
•    The added value for the Maritime Sector for its originality and applicability.
